Reflection Paper

“Obey God’s
message! Don’t fool yourselves by just listening to it.” James 1:22
This passage
really made me laugh, that’s why I decided to make a reflection paper about
that verse. And another reason is that because the way that Saint James
delivered it was kind of funny, but another reason was the passage was right.
Some of us people
are trying to fool ourselves into thinking that we understand God’s word but in
reality we just listened and we never understood it or tried to understand it.
There are many
reasons why didn’t even try to understand God’s word and one of it is because
we are too lazy to even accept God’s messages for us, or the other one is we
are just too scared of accepting God’s word because sometimes we feel that his
words are directing towards us, that he is judging our mistakes.
And those two people
that I described, they are both me I’m lazy and I am afraid.
This passage even
though it is short but for me the message is quite long. Saint James told us
that we need to obey God’s message and just stop acting like we are listening
because it is disrespectful, and not only that because it is hard to say the
word of God so we need to accept it, because if it is hard for us it is also
hard for those who deliver God’s word to us.
And we need to
learn from them because even though it’s hard they learned to accept God’s word
unconditionally, and humbly.
And I realize now
more than ever how important it is to understand God’s word because if we don’t
understand it how will we ever come back to him, how will we ever make Him
proud of what we are doing and how will we ever express our gratitude for Him
for all that he has done and all that he has given to us, and how will we
understand what he feels if we do not listen to his word.
That is why it’s
important to listen to Him so that we can express our gratitude and we can get
closer to understanding Him.
That is what I have
realized in this passage, it’s not just about listening it is understanding
what God’s true intentions are and what he is willing to do for us, and all
that we can do now is accept his word and be closer to Him than we are now.
That is what the
passage said to me.
